Biographical Note

Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonard_Mann

Leonard Mann was born in Toorak, Victoria in 1895 and attended Moreland State School before winning a scholarship to Wesley College. In 1913, he left his scholarship to work as a clerk in the Defence Department and began reading for the Bar. Mann enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (AIF) with the 39th Battalion in 1917, experiencing trench warfare on the Western front during the First World War. After being discharged from the AIF in 1919, Mann returned to Melbourne to complete his law degree at the University of Melbourne. As well as working as the Secretary of the Employers’ Federation during the 1930s, in 1932 he privately published Flesh in Armour, a novel about the soldier’s experience of World War I. Over the next forty years Mann published seven novels and four volumes of poetry. During the Second World War, he held a senior position in the aircraft industry
